TranslationEveryone has to upgrade! Linden Lab has stated they intend to begin rolling out Server Side Appearance (formerly known as Server Side Baking) on July 9th or shortly thereafter. It is of paramount importance to your user experience that ALL our users upgrade to this 4.4.1 version before the 9th of July. Even our 4.4.0 users should […]
First impression: Wouldnt open getting stuck in the loading textures
Second impression: Crashed before I finish to edit the preferences…
Good things that I could see is that seems that the typing a name and get it autocompleted is back! Other thing is that I can choose how to see who is in IM name, display, name (display) or display (name) – that’s pretty nice!!
Well, then I crashed, so let’s see! =P
You can color your own text and friends text with different colors AGAIN!!! \o/
I really really hope it’s better than 4.4.0 because I completely gave up on Firestorm after that. It became nearly impossible to use on my PC even though my PC is not outdated and has a really great video card..
The issues I had with that version were completely insurmountable. It crashed when I selected something, it crashed when I opened my inventory, it crashed when I detached mesh clothing..
If too many people landed where I was (and I don’t mean ‘too many, sim full’ but ‘too many, more than four’) it froze, locked my PC so badly I couldn’t open task manager, and then after 5-10 minutes, it crashed and took my whole system down with it. It randomly told me that my system hardware was unable to support it and it just closed itself which I suppose is better than an outright crash.. After the fourth time it did that to me I abandoned it completely.
I’ve switched over to Nirans and I’m far happier, I think I’ve had maybe three crashes in the past month (that were entirely my own fault because I was running too much in the background) and I can’t say I’ve been happier. The overall settings including the photo tools are ten times more comprehensive and the graphics quality itself is overall better but you can look back through my tumblr archives and be the judge of that, there’s a visible lurch to higher quality images when I switched viewers and it seems that my lag issues are less than half of what they were before so I’m thinking it’s not so much the grid lag as perhaps the information transfer lag in the firestorm viewer itself..
I’m not trying to convert anyone, I guess I’m just finally taking a small opportunity to vent about how badly Firestorm has let me down.
The new version is actually worse for me. I logged in, five minutes at Summerfest with about three other avatars, lowest graphic settings possible, LOD on 1.5 and… I crashed. Yep. Got the whole ‘Textures discarded due to insufficient memory: #’ crap as well. Maybe it’s better for Windows users but if you’re on the Mac OS X Lion operating system, don’t bother.
On the other hand, I’m actually using the official viewer these days and, out of all the available viewers for my OS, it works the best, takes the nicest pictures and only crashes when I have a stupid number of tabs open in Chrome or I’m running something graphics intensive alongside it. It’s only given me random crashes a few times, and the majority of those were actually SL server side, nothing to do with the viewer. (Issues teleporting and inventory issues, I suspect it’s because of the switch to SSB/Sunshine)
I’d love to try Niran’s but there isn’t a port for Mac (yet), so I’m gonna keep using the official LL viewer. I never thought I’d go back to the official one but so far I’ve been really impressed at its stability, speed, efficiency and lack of random freezes, crashes and log outs like FS is.
I will likely try Exodus again if/when that gets updated to allow for the SSB/Sunshine changes to work on it, as I also adore that viewer and it’s been nothing but stable for me.
I don’t know what they did to FS in the 4.0.0 update, but whatever it is, they haven’t fixed it yet, and the viewer is basically unusable for a lot of people due to constant crashes, not only of the viewer but also, like Shae said, whole systems.
I should add that Alex owns a gaming rig, (with 16GB of RAM and 2GB of dedicated graphics memory on a brand new card, as well as a solid state drive with faster read/write speeds than a conventional hard drive,) and he can’t run Firestorm for more than five minutes without huge FPS lag spikes, crashes, random log outs and he’s actually got BSOD about… Six times while trying to debug settings so it’s useable. Sort it out, Firestorm!
I don’t know if you guys have done this… somehow it when over my head a number of times and Firestorm would be HORRIBLE and laggy and crash and i couldn’t use it. Than i looked at instructions and I actually found something… that they forgot to mention. You know when you update it says to uninstall and erase the Firestorm folder in your user data up… I’m just going to do step by step. This is not to say that you have no idea what you’re doing or if you haven’t done it… It’s just easier for me to do this.
I’ve owned both a macbook pro and a pc. sooo….
Search firestorm on your mac, after you’ve “uninstalled” it on there. There are files EVERYWHERE. You need to erase ALL of those fuckers, for whatever reason they aren’t getting erased. Better yet, get CleanMyMac (cracked version) and use that thing to uninstall Firestorm. Firestorm wasn’t made to be on a mac, it’s was made for a pc. period. also macs don’t completely clear out their programs when you uninstall them, neither do pcs. there are hidden folders freakin everywhere.
Oh a PC uninstall the program the normal way. Than hit Computer > C drive > Users > “User Name” > AppData > check ALL of those folders for Firestorm > delete them. Clean out your trash and install Firestorm.
Firestorm should run fine if you HAVEN’T done this, if you have… well Firestorm is just a great fuck up just like Emerald was by the time everything ended with Viewer 1. You’re computers are fine it’s the fact that Firestorm is running on OpenSource still and computer now a days are so far from OpenSource it’s bogging the OS down.
